Motivational Monday: If We Just Tried

DAILY SPARK

I have never been a runner. I remember walking for every single mile run test I had to take in grade school and being excused for it because I would complain about the cramps in my ribs. I really did have abnormal ribs, but it never stopped me from doing other cardio work such as marching and dancing in a marching band or playing roughly with my cousins or friends. The truth is I was never fast, and so, I never liked running.

As I’ve been focusing more on my health and fitness, a strong part of me wants to run because of all of the benefits. But I’ve already deemed “running isn’t my thing.” And I can be honest and say running isn’t my thing because, well, I just don’t feel like I’m good at it.

How many activities or challenges have we decided not to take up because of predetermined conclusions about how well we’ll do in it. Whether it’s running, or exercising in general, writing a book, or taking pictures, or speaking in front of other people – we all have a way of discouraging ourselves from something.
